Hello, I bought this bike at a local thrift store. It is a circa 1970 Mercier with Renolds 531 tubing and Simplex dropouts. It originally had Simplex Prestige derailleurs. In order to have lower gears, the original owner removed the derailleur hanger, which was a Prestige only hanger, with a hack saw. In its place was installed a 1970 Suntour derailleur with a bolt on hanger and a Suntour 14-34 freewheel. He or she did a very clean job so it would not be difficult to braze or silver solder a hanger back on without affecting the chrome to much. But I like it the way it is, the low gears are nice and the correct period conversion adds to its history. I have overhauled every part on the bike and packed all bearigs with Phil Wood grease. The original Simplex Prestige front derailleur had a small crack in it, so I installed a 1970 Campagnolo derailleur with the correct cable guide. The original owner had installed a stem mounted Suntour Powershifter, which I don't like, so I installed a nice pair of Suntour barcons. I also added the NOS Bluemel Club Special fenders, NOS Ale bottle cages, Christophe toeclips, and matching red bar tape. The frame has 56 cm seat and top tubes, center to center. It has Stronglight cranks, bottom bracket and headset, Pivo stem with a no name bar, Normandy Luxe Competition hubs on AVA tubular rims, it has 2 new sewup tires which I have not glued on, one is a Vittoria and the other is a Continental. It has Mafac Racer brakes and levers.
